Scale without guessing

Proportion Grid Maker

Use matching grid coordinates to move a composition from one size to another. The cells organize placement while the unchanged aspect ratio keeps the transfer accurate.

How it works

From reference to usable grid in three steps

  1. 01

Crop the reference to the same aspect ratio as the artwork.

  2. 02

Choose a row and column count and repeat it on the drawing surface.

  3. 03

Transfer intersections and large contours before adding detail.

Better results

Use the grid as a guide, not a distraction

Preserve aspect ratio

Matching proportions prevent stretched faces, objects, and landscapes.

Map key intersections

Use grid crossings to place eyes, horizon lines, and major edges.

Scale up or down

The same method works from phone reference to paper or sketch to wall.

Useful for real art workflows

The same browser tool adapts to different media, scales, and learning contexts.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is ArtistGrid free to use?

Yes. You can upload a reference image, customize the grid, and export standard PNG, JPG, or PDF files without creating an account.

Is my reference image uploaded to a server?

No. ArtistGrid processes the image locally in your browser. The photo is used to draw the preview and export canvas, but it is not sent to an image-processing server.

How does a grid preserve proportions?

The same row and column structure creates matching relative positions. A point halfway across one cell stays halfway across the corresponding cell at the new size.

Can the target artwork be larger than the reference?

Yes. Measure the target surface, draw the same number of cells, and let each target cell be proportionally larger.

What causes proportion errors with the grid method?

The most common causes are changing the aspect ratio, using different row or column counts, and drawing detail before the large shapes are placed.
